The idea of ending the story with the heroic Dale Cooper and only possessed by evil forces in the lost highway never made much sense. not surprising, so, the main story of this new Twin Peaks seems to be the slow and arduous return of FBI agent himself. Is, so to speak, Cooper Odyssey, and by extension, Lynch also. The return to Twin Peaks is coming home, the filmic life.
Lynch loves filming people going in and out of the shadows. Almost all of his films have a moment where darkness descends upon its protagonists majestically and triumphantly: MacLachlan in the beating Blue velvet, distressing minutes before the murder of Renee Madison Lost Highway, Silence Theater Mulholland Drive, mental fragmentation of Laura Dern to rate Strange What Love Does Inland Empire, etc.
