our partner Alba White has conducted an analysis of chapter 5 of the new season of Twin Peaks.
Lucky 7
If we still had doubts, fed perhaps by opening the head and that frame rescued from the original series, This season does not revolve around Laura Palmer or even around the fictional town of Twin Peaks or its inhabitants. The star of this new Twin Peaks, if there is still some clueless is Kyle MacLachlan (and his great performance) and decrypting triad that disturbing character(s) Coop/Mister C./Douggie.
In this fifth chapter we continue the journey of this new Coop, just "landed" from the Red Room, and in the process of adaptation to the world after 25 year wait. We continue their acclimatization in the role of zany Douge which seems to have inherited his colorful suits and lucky only suggested in the name of the insurance company where he works, Lucky 7, and in which we shall see developing ( rather they are trying to develop) their daily activities. But who is Douggie? Recall that Coop is mistaken him for his undoubted resemblance (in addition to replacing the physical plane) because of their condition doppelganger. Douge has been Manufactured with a purpose being this allowing the coexistence of both Cooper (Mr. C. and Agent Cooper) in the material.
This sort of confusion of roles allows us to discover, while Cooper, something more than the life of Douge. Your household consisting of his wife (Naomi Wats), his son Sonny Jim and debt 50.000 Dollars. An explosive cocktail of play, prostitution, mob and pumps, problems do not stop appearing in mustangs with loud music and Coop / Doug be waged with the help of the Red room. In this episode these signals and move to Lucky7, although apparently they serve no purpose, trigger a sequence of events that trigger something in memory of Cooper and bring, a little back to the Agent Cooper. And it is this word BROKER, along with coffee flavor (cate wait to walk Cherry) which reverberates in the minds of Coop and make it stand, during hours, before the statue of a cowboy armed pointing to the sky thinking perhaps that idea out of his hands but increasingly seems to take more body.

"And everything will proceed cyclically"
We could perceive this chapter as flow from two complementary perspectives.
Put aside, and in the most direct way, it is presented as a circular section on the order of the scenes. This opens and closes with the image of a light bulb in Argentina (now we relate to a portal, communicator with a vehicle or purple or black lodge room) and activating a physical receiver, that little box with several drivers found on a plate. two scenes, one at the beginning and at the end, that seems to be key in the development of the main plot and relate directly to two significant occurrences of Evil Coop.

In the first we see Mister C. in his cell, ahead after delivering lunch with a prophetic and disturbing "And now comes the food", It is incorporated to stand in front of a mirror and reveal his true identity. What we all expected and intuited took shape in that reflection, Mister C. is Bob, or rather Bob inhabits the body of Mister C.. But Mister C. It is much more than Bob. In this reflection we not directly see the face of the evil entity if not a hybrid between the two faces. It was common knowledge that Frank Silva would not appear in this new release due to his untimely death in 1995 but many wondered how we would solve this deficiency because of their renewed and relevant importance in the current frame. Thus we are introduced to Mister C. as a new entity, a plural being and not just as the vehicle of Bob to do evil (Leland as in the first seasons). This would also explain the difference in behavior between characters and what we know of a body inhabited by Bob and figure hieratical Mister C.. Music and dancing have always been related to the murderer duo Bob and Mike, It is manifested as a residue of existence, Leland remember dances and rhythms mythical man elsewhere (also manufactured from Mike tore arm not keep killing). Nor forget the iconic laugh Bob, the pleasure he expressed it terrorize generated by this unique evil laugh that saw his face when harassed Laura, but also that we saw on the face of Agent Cooper when we learned that Bob had done to him.

In the last of these scenes back to prison where Mr. C. It is preparing to make a call before the eyes of an entire police presence hidden behind a security camera hoping to intercept some information. He faced Evil Coop and his reaction creating an electrical event all around it prevents them to capture what is said in that call , although the words are so cryptic that its meaning remains hidden even after listen: "The cow jumping over the moon". But the message travels directly to Argentina where the receiver under the bulb is activated and being folded upon itself to almost nothing.
What I wanted to convey Mister C. with that message?. Performances can be multiple, but what we do know is that this is an excerpt from an old lullaby in English:
Hey, diddle, diddle,
The cat and the fiddle,
The cow jumped over the moon.
The little dog laughed,
To see such fun*,
And the dish ran away with the spoon
This seemingly nonsensical song (Although there are numerous theories about its meaning) It was taken by L. Frank Baum for developing your children's story The Cat And The Fiddle ( Mother Goose in Prose, 1897) in which a child is presented, who loves music, having fun on the farm. His name is Bobby, chance?. I do not think so.

The other way in which we perceive this chapter as pie, or cyclic is through a number of parallels between new spaces, situations and characters facing spaces, situations and characters belonging to ancient seasons. It is true that, So far we have not come to feel the atmosphere of Twin Peaks, it seems that this force is scattered among many other places, as cogs in a machine that we know it works but do not know how. These meetings between current and past situations are as follows:
- One-Eyed Jack Casinos and Casino Silver Mustang. This relationship has been shown so far barely perceptible, beyond coincidence in choosing the place where happens an important part of the plot. However, In this chapter we find a scene in which the director of Casino Silver Mustang is hit as opposed to a plane in which they appear 3 (again 3) women dressed in pink and set (its pink and velvety dresses us back to the years 80 and women remind us of the one-eyed Jack) in position languid, expectant and passive except for the beautiful gesture, that makes one, mimicking the flow of the waves with his left hand. Another issue that stands out is the sound: a vibration appears, a metallic sound which usually indicate the relationship with the lodge and not normally present in this new release.

- RR Café and Rancho Rosa. Double legendary R appears at last in this new release. We see a Standard (Peggy Lipton) which continues to lead the business and Shelley (Madchen Amick) behind the bar, both involve the same errors as they committed repeated, this time embodied in Becky (Amanda Seyfried) daughter Shelley. El Rancho Rosa is urbanization where the appearance of Cooper and those strange sequences takes place around a drug-addicted mother and her little. Every time the action takes place there is presented as a poster contextualization of space in which the action will happen. The funny thing is that this poster is clipped by light indicating the initial R. R. And darkening the rest. Did you indicate this that we are facing the equivalent of RR (double R) in the new frame? I mean, a new social space crossover between characters.

- Laura palmer and Becky. As we mentioned in the previous point the appearance of Becky in the RR Café, the relationship with her boyfriend Steven and drug abuse, but especially this close-up of a euphoric Becky chopped a bright red background reminds us of what happened with Laura Palmer and makes us fear (and wait) that is sucediente again.
- Ring Doug. At the beginning of chapter one woman pressing E key on a device, which translates to a 2 on the screen. Right after we moved to Buckhorn where police and forensic crowd around the corpse beheaded of unknown identity (in which they seem to have appeared traces of Major Briggs ...). An autopsy revealed the existence of a wedding ring on her stomach with an inscription that reads "Doug. Janey fondly” (Janey-E Jones). Inevitably our head back to the letters under the fingernails of Teresa, Laura and Mady in which seemed to be missing one letter when, by Coop, Bob tried to spell his name backwards. The missing letter was always the E.

Leaky pipe
As suggested by the conversation between the Sheriff Truman and his wife, Twin Peaks seems to be a leaky pipe and the nobody wants to fix. The broken pipe is similar to that ear in the grass of a flower garden in Blue Velvet, sinister is hidden behind the curtains of the everyday, hidden decay of America that Lynch liked both point. The murky background that hides a plane of great beauty like Becky Steven's car or the blackest humor that great speech anti Doctor Jacoby system, a scathing critique of the culture of consumerism just being discovered as a sale announcement golden shovels:"Take off shoveling shit for only 29,99 Dollars" .
